Details of the August Meeting (by Dock Perry)
Wow! We had a wonderful turnout for our August meeting! Our newest members
Jim and Merrick
were in attendance along with our old buddy Ken Collins and the usual
cast of characters which 
always
seem to turnout in force from all corners to keep our little group going
strong. And it was great to see our eldest member Sid Shear return after
being hospitalized with an injury.
But we're not through yet... We also had a surprise visit from this guy....
remember him? A bit more clean shaven than we're used to but it was a
pleasure to have Rich (Decoy) Levine back for a meeting. Welcome back
Sid and Rich.
The group decided at the August meeting that we would be relocating to a new restaurant for our pre-meeting dinner. The quality of service along with the food at Applebee's has been sub par for too long and a change now seems very necessary. A reminder will be send out before the October meeting as to which restaurant we picked to replace it.
The
2006 Club Pipe
It was also decided that Tim Hynick would be distributing the 2006 club
pipes at our October meeting for those who (wisely) purchased them.
2006 SHPC Club Blend
I spoke with Ernie Q. from Watch City Cigar Co. and he will indeed
be making our yearly SHPC blend. It will be a Virginia and limited to
only around 10 tins total! If you're interested in purchasing one please
send Ernie an e-mail or give him a call. Our yearly blends are always
individually numbered, feature our club's logo and are named after one
of the stories, name's or events from A.C.Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories...

Meeting **************
Once again Steve Gutz has graciously invited all SHPC club members, their
wives, girlfriends or mistresses to his home in Harvard for our yearly
SHPC cookout. This will be the 3rd year for this event and it's a NOT
TO BE MISSED event! Steve has one of the finest pipe, tobacco and
related literature collections in the country and a chance to see it first
hand is a real treat for all enthusiasts. As always Steve supplies the
burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. Feel free to bring desserts, entrees,
beer etc. We hope to see many of you there...

Meeting Themes
It seems lately that the hot pipe of the moment is the Savinelli
"Autograph". Prices on E-Bay have seemingly doubled over the last
six months and most e-tailers selling "Auto" estates don't have them
on their sites long anymore! For our October meeting I'd like to encourage
everyone to bring their Autographs along for a little show and tell.
It's been quite a while since we've had an actual theme meeting
but the time seems right to revive this old tradition!
Dock's Corner
Well fellow smokers it's official....we're in pretty dark times at the moment! Nearly every state already has a highly intrusive smoking ban in place or they're working their damnedest to quickly pass one through! The most recent one on the docket in California calls for a ban on smoking in any cars carrying children and at least one state legislator is calling for a smoking ban in all homes stating that "California must protect people from themselves in matters of smoking." It seems boggling to the mind to think that this is even close to becoming a reality but most of us thought we'd never see an out right end to smoking in bars and clubs either! It really seems like they're painfully close to that victory they drool for in their quest to ban smoking all together. I guess my questions to those who support this sort of measure is: Where's all the money gonna come from now?" How do you think states will recoup their staggering losses on tobacco tax revenue? Answer: It's clear to anyone with half a brain that they'll just be simply increasing the already skyhigh property,sales,excise and income taxes! Also,once they do get their way and tobacco's been banished to the land of misfit toys: "What will these folks who make their money from the anti smoking lobbyists,insurance companies and the American lung association due without their lucrative jobs?" Answer: They'll be quickly coming after the fast food restaurants who serve deliciously fattening hamburgers and fries! After all folks...Uncle Sam has an inherit obligation to its citizens to save them from becoming fat asses".... Dock J.Perry
