Club Info & Events
The June meeting brought another nice turnout and a great
time as always with lots of tobacco sampling going on. Thanks to Ernie
Quintilianni from Watch
City Cigar for his contribution to our raffle.
Arrivederci Dante
We're
hoping Dante will be able to make the August meeting but it's very possible
that July was his last. Now retired, Dante and his wife Elaine will be
heading south to Delaware to be closer to their family and start livin'
the good life. How they could leave their beautiful seaside home on 1st
Cliff in Scituate, MA. is beyond me but from what they tell me, I guess
"its time". Not to worry though because they've purchased another beautiful
home in Delaware literally steps to the golf course and the ocean is just
a few miles away.
So on behalf of the entire Sherlock Holmes Pipe Club I want to wish you
well in your retirement and good luck with your new home. Be sure to stop
by for meeting if you ever back in the area and watch out for those stray
golf balls.
Some old and not so old faces
Although we hate to see any of our members move
away, it's always nice to see them come back. At the July meeting we saw
two faces we haven't see in quite some time Mark
"Barley"Maxfield and Jon "Gadget" Cohen. Mark was
visiting home while in between assignments with the Seminary and Gadget
has been on a bit of a sabbatical. It was great seeing you both and we
hope to see you again in the future.
The
third newcomer to our Stoughton is Mark Ternullo. Mark joined the club
during our exile to New Hampshire after the smoking ban took effect. This
is his first visit to Stoughton and we welcome you. We hope you will continue
to join us.
So what's in store for the August 2nd Meeting?
Something
exciting that's for sure!
As mentioned last month, Tony Sanchez of Santa
Fe Pipes will be starting his tour to celebrate the American
Pipe Carver. Tony sells pipes for a number of American carvers
and believes that they are the wave of the future for the pipe business.
Tony will bring with him pipes made by David Jones, Randy Wiley, Tony
Fillenwarth, Ron Fairchild and Gray Mountain Pipes. Plus, I have just
recently learned that Tony has contracted with Mark Tinsky and will have
about a dozen of his pipes as well.
This should prove to be a great meeting, so those of you who have never
been to one but have been thinking about it, this will be a great one
to get you started. And for you club members who haven't been to a meeting
in awhile, c'mon down and check out the new location and meet the new
guys. Things have really been going well.
The SHPC 2005 Club Pipe Is Here
At long last the 2005 club pipes made my Mark Tinsky are done and will
be distributed by lottery prior to the club meeting on August 2nd. Can't
wait to see them in person.
Upcoming Events
Steve's Annual Pipe Party will also be the September
Meeting
It
was decided at a previous meeting that Steve's 3rd Annual Pipe Party will
also double as the September club meeting. So if you're not coming to
Steve's on September 10th (and I can't think of any reason to miss it),
do forget and show up in Stoughton on the 6th.
Party details: This years event will be held on Saturday,
September 10th, 2005 from 3:00PM until whenever. As usual, Steve will
supply hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks. You can bring you favorite
alcoholic beverage, salads, desserts and snack food. This event is
open to club members and their families and guests only.
Those of you who have been to Steve's before know what a good time this
is. Those of you who haven't been... now's your chance.

Brown No. 4 Finest Kendal Twist
The
name Twist or Rope originates from sailors who made the tobacco
into balls, soaking it in molasses for a sweeter taste. The Twist
tobacco was then chewed, not smoked, as the sailors worked on wooden
boats and smoking would have been a fire hazard. This is traditional
smoking & chewing tobacco, made of aged dark brown leaf. It provides
a very strong but remarkable cool smoke. Unsuitable for the beginner.
