the December Meeting
December holiday meeting is the culmination of our club year where
we spend time reminiscing on the past year and begin thinking
about new ideas for the coming year. We also say thanks to those
members who have supported the club all year by attending meetings
and participating in our monthly tobacco raffle. This year supporting
members were given a tin of tobacco of their choosing and the
opportunity to participate in the raffle for some nice prizes.
Tim also graciously donated a very nice (unsmoked) Neerup pipe
from his own collection as a raffle prize. Thanks Tim!
Our winners this year were: Nelson - Xikar Scribe
Lighter; Rob - Stanwell Hans Christen Anderson
pipe; Tim - Vector Elio Lighter; Tom -
Tsuge Tankard Pipe; Tony - Neerup Pipe, Derek
- Julius Max Pipe Pouch. Contrats to all winners.
year's holiday meeting was great fun. We were happy John was able
to make it from New Hampshire to celebrate with us and it was also
great to welcome back Nate (aka Pen) who has not been to a meeting
in quite a while. We love it when old members return and would like
to see more of you. I know the players
have changed but there are still some faces you will remember so
if you haven't been to a meeting in a while... and I'm talking to
folks like Bob, Dock, Greg, Cindi, Suit, Bulldog, Horatio, Symphony
Joe, Barley, Gavel, Mooney, Paul D., Joel, Pete... I could go on.
We'd love you all to stop by and reconnect with the club.
The SHPC Club Card - A New
Initiative for 2015
For 2015 and beyond we've decided to try something
new to help encourage member participation, bring in new members,
increase retention and organize more club activities and events.
The SHPC Club Card is similar to the loyalty cards you've seen at
restaurants and other businesses. Participating members will get
their card punched for a variety of reasons like attending meetings,
bringing in new members, organizing a club event or presentation
and contributing to our website. At the end of the year the winner
will receive a $200 gift certificate to an online pipe and tobacco
shop. We hope this new incentive will help to make future meetings
more interesting and inviting to help keep members coming back every
month and encourage new interest in our club. Do you have a good
idea for a club meeting? I'll get the punch ready....

ran into a little bit of a road block with the 2 pipes we selected
for the 2015 club pipe so we may be back to the drawing board.
Tim is in communication with the folks at SmokingPipes.com so
we may see some additional shapes to choose from in the near future.
Regional Smoking Competition
and Holiday Extravaganza
Note: A video of this event is
in process however there are a few select vendor videos available
now for your viewing pleasure. Find those videos included in the
event write up.
2014 Northeast Regional Smoking Competition and Holiday Extravaganza
sponsored by the Hudson Valley Pipe Club was held in a new venue
this year. This event has always taken place at the S.M. Frank
Co. home of Kaywoodie Pipes in Peekskill, NY but this past year
the business had to move to a more compact location and would
no longer be able to accommodate the 50+ smoking visitors and
vendors from the New England area and beyond. Club members sprang
into action to find a new place to hold this year's event and
was able to secure a spot at the Southern Duchess And Putnam Sportsman
Association's clubhouse. The new location consisted of one large
room with a kitchen area, a working fireplace and lots of taxidermy
do give it a rustic outdoorsy feel.
The vendors took up one side of the room while
the majority of event attendees occupied the other side with
the seating situation was much the same as it was at S.M. Frank.
There were tons of new and estate pipes available from the familiar
faces of Paul Bonacquisti and Andy Camire. There were also a
few new faces I had not seen at past events. Bob from Pipes
2 Dream had a table with an impressive display of pipes, all
by American carvers and included selections from.....
