from the June & July Club Meeting
Not
too much to report from the past two meetings. Attendance has lessened
some with the summer months keeping people busy but we always manage
a good group and these days there seems to be plenty to talk about....
and none of it very good. With the ridiculousness of the craziest
presedential election in history, to the tragedies of innocent people
being gunned down in night clubs or masses of people being run down
by huge trucks or the beheading of priests, it sort of makes the
whole FDA regulation issues we're dealing with in our small lives
seem somewhat insignificant. But even though they are not taking
our lives, they are still taking away our freedom and that is still
significant.
SHPC 2016 Club Pipes
Looks like we're going with a Rhodesian shape by Premal Cheda of
Smokers Haven. We hope to have more details and possibly a prototype
soon so stay tuned for more. At the present time we're looking at
a Fall delivery.
Invisible Enemy
- A short story by Ernie Whitenack
From
the Intro....
Hitler’s hidden diamonds and gold were allocated
to fund a secret organization. It was a terrorist group known as
Werwolf (Werewolf) who would disrupt and confuse the Allied occupation,
and planned to overthrow the Allies, and then carry the fight to
the East and Soviet Russia.

Chapter 8
.... A buzzer sounded somewhere in the back of the shop
as he opened the door. The delightful odor of the shop was primarily
that of Virginia and Latakia with an undertone of an aromatic of
some kind. Shortly, a tall man about forty approached him through
a door directly behind the glass counter where a large number of
pipes were displayed on a blue velvet background. The man was lean
and looked muscular. His blond hair stood out above his ruddy complexion
and was starting to gray at the edges. Round steel-rimmed glasses
sat low on his nose.
The man greeted Clancy in German and asked if he could serve him
in some way.
Clancy mustered up his American accented German getting into
a tourist mode and replied, “I’m an American; do you
speak English?”
“Most assuredly, sir; I have lived in England and the USA.
I took my university studies in America. London is where I learned
the tobacco trade. My name is Rudolf Zimmerman”
Clancy relit his pipe, giving him a moment to fully absorb the
information, and replied, “How interesting! I teach Political
Science in a small college in New Hampshire. When were you in
the States?”

Tobacco Raffle
This month we have 2 blends from across the pond.
St. Bruno Flake (1.75oz Tin)
St.
Bruno Flake with its smooth, rich, flavor and light floral and fruit
note that enhances, rather than masks, the excellent leaf. A large,
grateful group of pipe enthusiasts are thrilled to see St. Bruno
return to our shores. Welcome back an old friend, or try this classic
for the first time. Either way, you win.
Gold Block(1.75oz tin)
Gold
Block from Ogden's of Liverpool was known for being one of the most
widely available pipe tobaccos in the UK. This smooth and relaxing
blend of sweet, bright Virginia and mellow white Burley is treated
to a pleasant top note which allows the user to get real tobacco
flavor, while delivering an enticing room note. For anyone who is
looking for an all-day blend, or for a lightly flavored tobacco
for earlier in the day, Gold Block is certain to please.
