Santa Fe Pipes visits SHPC
It
was great having Tony Sanchez from Santa
Fe Pipes with us this past meeting. He brought a nice assortment of
pipes with him, all of which were carved by American pipe carvers and
included pipes by David Jones, Mark Tinsky and Randy Wiley to name a few.
During his presentation, Tony offered us his views on where he feels the
pipe industry is headed. He is extremely impressed with the quality of
briar and workmanship that he's been seeing from the American pipe carvers
and feels that many of the American high grades are as good if not better
than their European counterparts but with a much more reasonable price
tag. He fielded questions from some of the members before sitting back
and enjoying his pipe with the rest of us. It seemed more like he'd been
a member of our club for years rather than visiting for his first time.
Tony also opened up 5 tins of G.L. Pease tobacco which included 2 of Pease's
newer blends, Montgomery & Telegraph Hill and generously donated the remainder
of each tin to our regular raffle.
And just to show you what kind of a guy Tony Sanchez is, before packing
up and heading back to Sante Fe, Tony told me he would offer the readers
of this newsletter a 20% discount off the retail price of any of the American
pipes he has in stock. Just be sure to mention that you read about it
in the Sherlock Holmes Pipe Club Newsletter.
To see some of what he has in stock be sure to check out his website at
www.santafepipes.com.
Thanks again Tony for a great visit, I hope we can do it again in the
not too distant future.
We'd also like to welcome our newest member Gary
Rogan.

Tim Hynick - SHPC Pipe Maker
For
those of you who don't already know, Tim Hynick will have a table at the
September New York Pipe Show (Sept 3rd). This is Tim's first pipe show and
he's been working hard to bring you a nice selection of pipes. Tim has a
unique style and if you've never seen any of his pipes before, be sure to
stop by and say hello. Maybe you'll find something you love at a great price.
It's almost a guarantee!!
Also, Tim recently took a trip to Canada where he made a
visit to the workshop of Michael
Parks. He will be presenting the details of his trip at our October
meeting. We hope to see you there.
The SHPC 2005 Club Pipe
We'd like to thank American pipe maker Mark Tinsky for doing a great job
on the SHPC 2005 club pipe. Those who received their pipes at the past
meeting seemed very happy with them. If you are interested in having a
pipe made for your club, take a look at what Mark has to offer by visiting
www.amsmoke.com.
Thanks again Mark for a nice job.
